    Through my employee benefits program I learned was eligible to receive free COVID-19 home-test kits at my local Walgreen’s. I went to the drive-thru window to procure a few and was told they were not free, even though I showed my required identification, but that I would be able to file a claim. I thought “well, OK” and bought 4 test kits at $29.99 each. I went home to start the claim paperwork and noticed that to get them free I should have gone to the indoor pharmacy counter, not the drive-thru (a fine print detail I hadn’t seen). So I immediately went back (within an hour) to the store, inside to the pharmacy counter, with the receipt and kits still in the original bag, unopened, to get a refund, and showed them the information I’d just read. They refused the refund on the grounds that the test kits had already left the store. My benefit plan said they could reimburse me $12 per test kit since I didn’t buy them at the store counter. I have filed a claim twice and twice been denied on the ground that there is no National Drug Code number for the test kits — totally ignoring the fact that this was not a prescription drug, had no NDC, and did not require a prescription. I’ve now spent almost 3 months trying to get this sorted, without success. The BASIC FACT is that Walgreen’s should have simply refunded my money on the day of the purchase because of the unusual circumstances, AND that it was not a prescription drug. Now I’m well past the 30-day return date and angry as a wet hen. Will make one last attempt by talking with the store manager (if I am allowed). Any better suggestions?
