The period for return – 60 days
DSW return policy allows you a return period of 60 days.
If you are not completely satisfied with your purchase or it didn’t match your dress or the size doesn’t fit, you can easily return or exchange most of the items within the return period counted from the day of purchase.
Just make sure the product is in an unworn or like-new condition. This implies that you can even return an opened package until and unless it is not worn out.
If making a valid return i.e., return with all the required documents, you will get a refund in the original form of payment.

Different methods to return
You can return the products bought online both in-store or via mail.
However, this isn’t the case of store purchases as they can’t be returned via mail.
To return your products to DSW, you just have to provide the receipt and the product in an unworn or resalable condition.

Return process at your Local Store
The items purchased offline can only be returned to the local store while the online purchases have both the options.
This is a better option for online shopping, as it helps avoid shipping and handling charges of approximately $8.50. Just follow the following simple steps:
- Collect documents related to your purchase. These include:
- Receipt or invoice
- Original form of payment (e.g., the credit card used to make the payment)
- Original product packaging
- In case of lost receipt provide a valid government-issued photo ID, name, address, and signature
- Visit the customer desk at your nearest DSW store along with the above documents (Click here to locate your nearest store).
- The customer representative would check the items and receipts for eligibility.
- Once approved, you will get the payment back in the original form of payment immediately. In case returns are without a receipt, you will get a refund in the form of a merchandise credit.
Return process through Mail
The items purchased online can be returned to DSW if it reaches the warehouse within 60 days from purchase.
Now, within this, you have two options – to use pre-paid FedEx services or your preferred shipping carrier. Both the options are explained below:
Return via FedEx
- Get the FedEx return label enclosed in the dsw.com box.
- Find a FedEx location near you (Click here to locate FedEx store). You can even call them at 1-800-GOFEDEX (1-800-463-3339) to get assistance.
Note: The FedEx return label can’t be used outside of the US
- Repack your purchase and drop the package at a FedEx Authorized ShipCenter or FedEx Office.
- It will take 7–10 days to process the return and refund the amount. DSW charges a shipping fee of $8.5, which would be deducted from the credited amount.
Return via Preferred Shipping Carrier
The overall process remains the same, apart from two things.
First, you would not be charged the $8.5 shipping fee if you pay purchase postage at whichever post office or parcel location you chose.

DSW Refund Policy
DSW return policy provides refunds in the original mode of payment. However, there are some cases listed below, where you will get merchandise credit irrespective of your method of tender:
- Returns made after 60 days
- Gifts returned in-store (if returned by mail, it’ll be credited in the original form of payment)
- Returns made without an original receipt (on showing valid ID proof)
- Payment by the combination of Paypal and gift card – the entire amount would be refunded in the form of gift card
If you made the purchase using DSW reward points or offers, you would be refunded the net purchase price, and the reward points would not be credited back.
DSW Exchange Policy
DSW Exchange policy is even more consumer-friendly in the sense that they are entirely free of cost. Yes! You read it correctly.
Exchanges can be made in-store or through the mail, and you will not be charged any shipping fee. Even shipping on the exchanged product would be waived off.
Exchange by visiting your nearest DSW store
Exchanges follow a similar approach to returns for refunds. They are to be exchanged within 60 days, and the returned product should be in like-new condition.
The DSW rewards or offers can be reissued if the exchange is made on the same date of purchase.
Exchange via Mail
DSW processes exchanges like a return and reissues the new product. In simple words, you will be charged for the exchanged purchased and will get a credit for the returned one.
Follow the steps mentioned above; just indicate the replacement in the package, and your work is done.
In case the exchange is made within 60 days, any difference in the old and replaced products would be credited in the original form of payment.
After 60 days, this would be refunded in the form of store credit. For the exchange of gifts, you will get a gift card only, with no exceptions.
Payments made by PayPal would be refunded in the same source. The difference lies while exchanging the products.
For PayPal customers exchange through the mail is not an option. You must return your items to a store only.
The simple reason for this is the fact that DSW people are not allowed to access your PayPal account to make a new purchase.
In case you used a combination of PayPal and a gift card to purchase an item, you would be getting the entire amount in the form of a merchandise credit.
Exceptions to DSW Return Policy
DSW doesn’t allow returns for refund or exchange of certain items, enlisted below:
- Worn out products
- Final Sales items
